It was surprisingly quick move by Mike Ashley today just couple of hours after the first disaster that you or your Deputy of Football have done to this club. It was also more quicker than the last club statement regarding to Kevin Keegan status.

On the club official, Mike Ashley has make his statement about his plan for the future of Newcastle United. In one side you want us to progress slowly, we don’t mind that honestly, but to progress without decent backing for the club situation (i.e buying a decent left-back and Milner replacement) is not a good plan I think. That would make us relegated!

Here’s what Mike said as quoted from his statement on the official site:

The fans want this process to happen more quickly and they want huge amounts spent in the transfer market so that the club can compete at the top table of European football now. I am not stupid and have listened to the fans. I have really loved taking my kids to the games, being next to them and all the fans. But I am now a dad who can’t take his kids to a football game on a Saturday because I am advised that we would be assaulted. Therefore, I am no longer prepared to subsidise Newcastle United.

For God’s sake! None of us want big names signing for the truth is Mr. Ashley, we want coverage, we want good replacement for Milner’s position, we want a left-back! That was something that we really don’t understand why your great scouting team cannot work for it?

I am prepared to back large signings for millions of pounds but for a player who is young and has their career in front of them and not for established players at the other end of their careers. There is no other workable way forward for Newcastle. It is in this regard that Dennis and his team have done a first class job in scouting for talent to secure the future of the club.

First class job in scouting? Once again, the future of this club is not in the hands of young players who are not ready to play in senior squad, and look at the team condition now, even against Hull we cannot win!

I am putting the club up for sale. I hope that the fans get what they want and that the next owner is someone who can lavish the amount of money on the club that the fans want.

Thank you very much for that, and I also hope the new owner will think more into building the strength to current squad while working on the youngsters in background, not like your reverse plan to make this club get relegated and then build it again with the “talented” youngsters that Dennis Wise and co has been first class scouted for Newcastle United.

This could be the longest post I’ve ever did on the Magpies Zone, but I assume that all these stuff are important enough to be highlighted, so all my friends here can read too. I will start with the Sun’s report saying “Keegan Wanted To Sign Beckham, Lampard & Former Gunner Henry.”

And just like most of the press always said, the Sun comes up with this report from a Newcastle insider who told The Sun, as I quote below:

Keegan is said to have asked Magpies owner Mike Ashley to fork out almost £200million on packages to land the three players. However, this audacious demand was firmly dismissed by Ashley, according to a source at the North East club.

Ashley was already known to have been told Keegan that he only wanted young unknown players that would have more biggest selling price and could give huge benefits to the club (this is rather questionable one) just like what Arsenal’s did.

And so below are the reactions for the article above from two of Magpies Zone contributor and friend, Clarky and Macbeth which I can believe as the truth behind the Sun’s report.

If the report were accurate then Ashley would indeed have been right. However, as in all aspects of man management, it would then depend on how Ashley dealt with the situation.

If KK’s target list was Lampard, Becks and Henry, the right thing to do would have been to sit down with KK, preferably over a beer, find out how serious he was, discuss the merits of each player, their cost and likely benefit to the club, and then be prepared to debate your own thoughts on transfer policy, for as long as it took.

The objective would be to do your level best to develop a course of action you could both buy into, which would almost certainly require compromise by both parties. If agreement proved to be impossible, and KK was just sitting there insisting the club buy Lampard, Becks and Henry, you would then have to make it clear that that was not going to happen, and discuss what that meant for his continued employment.

What you would not do is get some weazle surrogate to ignore the Manager’s list, buy a few players that he fancied and fit your preferred requirement, and then during the last day of the transfer window try to sell several players the Manager had insisted were important to retain, and sign two players the Manager had already indicated he did not want, in the certain knowledge this would cause the Manager to resign despite the fact he was otherwise doing a first-class job for you.

That would be called an abrogation of management, and would be the kind of thing done by a moral coward who was afraid to do his own dirty work.

-Clarky-

I can’t think of any instances where Keegan bought old players at the end of their careers for excessive sums.

When he had money he bought Ferdinand, Ginola, Warren Barton, Hislop, and Shearer. When he didn’t have money he bought Robert Lee, Beresford, Sheedy (for a tiny amount), Venison (for a small amount). He just didn’t do old, expensive players.

The Sun (!) article just looks like poor spin from the club to try and discredit Keegan’s judgment. It only takes one or two to start saying “no smoke without fire” for it to be the absolute truth by next weekend.

If it is a whispering game, expect a “friend of Keegan’s” to be quoted saying that Keegan wanted to buy Stephen Warnock for £2m but the club wouldn’t sanction it.

-Macbeth-

After the first statement from the official site yesterday, they have made another one today saying that Newcastle United Football Club can confirm that discussions are ongoing between the Board and Kevin Keegan.

Both the Club and Kevin would like to reiterate that Kevin remains as manager. He has not resigned nor has he been sacked, as has been confirmed in respective statements made by Kevin and Newcastle United Football Club.

But the King himself has no single words to counter or accept the club statement. Keegan still in silent mode, that force the club to spread their second statement because some of the press reports are still speculating that Keegan refused to stay if the club hierarchy not allow him to buy his own players.

Meanwhile, the only press site that has come up with a slight relieve news during the depressing hours yesterday, the Chronicle has reporting the Newcastle United Fanzine editor Mark Jensen believes that another Kevin Keegan departure will send shock waves around the football world.

“What seems to be unfolding is that when the deal was done Mike Ashley and Kevin Keegan put the deal down to a handshake with details to be agreed later.” Jensen told the Chronicle today

And further more news from the Chronicle ‘informan’ that close to the King has give information about Kevin still wants the job. Make no mistake about that. But he would like to be able to buy his own players.

Meanwhile, since the day Ashley took the club, he only spend just £11m to buy players, and saying he has buy NUFC with no intention to make money just want to be a fan and have some fun.

What fun it would be if the club where he is a ‘fan’ of will struggling year after year without any sufficient back-up to buy decent players? It’s hard to survive in the Premierships nowadays without spending heavily. Manchester City is the latest sample of how money can brought player like Robinho from Real Madrid!

If I was Mike Ashley and since his reputation now is very bad, I would sell this club to the Indian multi billionaire Anil Ambani and his Reliance group, who are still more than interested in buying out and ready to put a £275m offer on the table for Newcastle United.

To: Newcastle United Football Club

This is a call to all fellow Newcastle United FC supporters to demonstrate their desire for the removal of Denis Wise from our great club. Furthermore, I am sure you all agree with the consensus that Mike Ashley is having a distinct detrimental affect to our existence in the Premier League and is unable to progress the club, therefore, we strongly urge him to sell the club at the quickest opportunity.

May I also outline the fact, Kevin Keegan is Newcastle United through and through, for this reason, I stress the importance of Kevin Keegan remaining at the club.

Thank you for your support.

The petition will be presented to officials of Newcastle United Football Club on the 15th of September 2008.

Seriously lads and lasses, this kind of story was the very last thing that I want to read at this moment. After being slight relieve on Toon’s last juvenile deadline signings last night, I don’t want to see Keegan walk away from the club today.

Mind you, all the press today are busy reporting and updating the news, but deep inside I hope MA will keep and calm him down. I can not imagine what the Toon Army would react if Ashley thinks Dennis Wise is better than Keegan.

Telegraph has this article this morning:

Keegan’s future has been the subject of speculation recently following numerous disagreements with owner Mike Ashley and director of football Dennis Wise.

He was called into a meeting yesterday at 2pm which, at the time, insiders described as “highly significant but not transfer related”.

According to reports, a heated discussion took place during which director Derek Llambias told Keegan that those in charge were not happy with his brief tenure.

Also the BBC has reported the same ‘bad scenario’:

Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan has been holding talks with the Magpies board as speculation mounts over his future, BBC Radio Newcastle understands.

Reports have suggested that the 57-year-old has been unhappy with the club’s policy on transfers.

Until now, still nothing from the club official site regarding to these issues, but I hope the best decision of all time that one Mike Ashley have to put on was to keep Keegan incharge and gave him more freedom in Toon’s transfer arrangement in the future.
