Gateshead born striker Andy Carroll who has spent half of the season on loan at Preston North End has back in Toon, and in training over the next couple of weeks.

Big Sam will study his progress from being out on loan before deciding if he will be sent out on loan again or make it to the first team this season.

During his loan spell at Preston North End, Carroll has scored one goal from his 11 outings for the Lilywhites.

Carroll burst onto United’s first-team at the end of the last season campaign. Under Big Sam, he scored his first senior goal in black and white on a pre-season friendly against Italian giants Juventus.

“We’ll have a look at Andy to see what progress he has made in the first half of the season.” Allardyce said on the official club site, “I hope he’s come back an improved player for the experience.”

With striker Oba Martins set to head-off to Ghana for the African Cup of Nations and Michael Owen still haven’t got his touch yet since returning from several injuries, Big Sam will considered to use Andy services before let him off for another loan session.
