Despite being defeated again yesterday, Sam Allardyce has thanked the “magnificent” support of the Toon Army. More than 6,000 Geordies made the trip to Lancashire and got behind United team from start to finish. This kind of supports are the right answer for Joey Barton’s questioning the Geordies faithful.
“I have to say thanks to all those fans who made the journey,” said Allardyce on the official site, “It is really difficult to take after the support we had, that we got nothing from the game.”
“The fans were magnificent today and if they get behind us again against Arsenal on then I’m sure we’ll stand a great chance of getting a result.”
Big Sam was pleased with the team performance yesterday. His men showing terrific efforts and had lots of opportunities to win.
“We were in control of game for long periods but unfortunately we fell foul of being caught on the break. That is the disappointing thing for me.” He added more “When we got in front, instead of going 2-0 up we went 1-1. At that particular time Charles N’Zogbia had a chance to make it 2-0 but was wrongly ruled offside.”
With only one point from 5 games, Sam Allardyce will have to think fast for the visit of Arsenal on Wednesday. The team commitment will have another test infront of the home crowd. I hope the positive supports that has been shown by those 6,000 travelling Toon Army at Ewood Park will stay up there inside St. James’ Park.
Allardyce said what they have to do is keep playing like yesterday. “We have to keep the belief because that’s we need to turn this bad spell around. We need to get results and to get points on the board.”
“We have to play like we did today at home. It has been a good performance but unfortunately we haven’t got the result. That’s the hardest thing. And the most important thing because it keeps the bad run going which can ebb away at the confidence and the belief.”
Meanwhile, contrasting to what the papers say last week, Mike Ashley, had told friends in midweek that he was “very disappointed” with his team’s start to the season, and that he would reappraise Allardyce’s position in the light of the next two games.
The media today is talking about the posibility of the appointment of Shearer, who has let it be known that he sees Newcastle as the ideal starting point for his break into management. I was in personal would love to see Big Al step inside but don’t think this is the right time for him.
With the team conditions like what we have now, Shearer or even Jose Mourinho will not have much to do with. The ideal thing is to have Shearer stands in beside Allardyce as his number two. Allardyce is true a good manager in fact, but he needs someone who has the soul of Newcastle, and that one is Shearer.
