Joey Barton has his first competitive game after being sidelined since late July after breaking a metatarsal in a pre-season friendly at Carlisle. He’s joining the quest for full match fitness with the likes of Emre, Jose Enrique and Abdoulaye Faye.
Barton has 45 minutes of play while Emre, Enrique and Faye all have played in full 90 minutes.
The reserves match was the first from three second-string competitive matches that Barton should completed before Sam Allardyce will considered him fit for the return in first team squad.

Jose “Bull” Enrique have showed why he’s got the nickname. He is bursting down the left-wing and into the penalty area before tee-up Mark Doninger for the equaliser in 20 minutes into the second-half.
