Now, What the Papers Says?

Alright, I have posted the voices of Newcastle United fans yesterday, and I think it’s also interesting to know what the papers said about Saturday’s Tyne-Wear derby. But, one thing that’s been in most headlines today was the Barton’s tackle on macKems Etuhu.

Times online reveals that Joey has went into the tackle with his studs dangerously high which drew an angry response from Etuhu. But there was no foul awarded from the referee, Martin Atkinson. He does not notice the incident but flags it up in his match report.

The FA committee said they will be looking to clarify and review the incident. If Barton found guilty, he could be subject to a three-game ban. The reactions from the Toon fans are slightly vary between like it and dislike it. For me, what he does yesterday was normal in a derby game, although I’m not able to say that Joey was really mean to doing it or not.

Keane’s reaction was a bit of surprise, he said that he’s not going to get bogged down by a tackle that was slightly high. According to him that happens in every games.

“You give and you take. Dickson is a tough lad. He is alive in that dressing room, he won’t be leaving on a stretcher.” He said.

As for the whole game itself, the Mirror commented on Sam Allardyce defended yet another ultra-cautious display by insisting his glass is half full, but it is a fair bet that most of the travelling Tynesiders left the Stadium of Light feeling theirs were half empty.

Allardyce said: “I am not bothered whether we were fortunate. You just don’t lose a derby. No Newcastle manager has ever lost at the Stadium of Light and it was important to continue that sequence.”

For the most of Newcastle fans, they have witnessed once again that Allardyce has set Newcastle United team to go out on every away game with aim to get a draw. It is something that in the eyes of many club fans, who have been reared on a tradition of attacking football, as a negative football.

And about Joey’s incident as quoted from the Sky, Allardyce feels Joey Barton is being singled out for criticism because of his past reputation following the Newcastle United midfielder’s challenge on Dickson Etuhu. “There were a lot of incidents like that, but it is only because of Joey’s reputation that people bring it up,”

“But it is not good and he should not do it.” Allardyce told reporters.

Sam also reveals that fear sparked his players into life with a goal down against Sunderland, and when they did finally hit the back of the net, it turned out to be the catalyst for Newcastle to up their game. “We responded after we went a goal down, it was what I was looking for from the start and it kicked our passing game into action,” he told Sky Sports 1.
