New deal for Cheik Tiote

Alan Pardew told sports betting pundits in his opening press conference as Newcastle United manager that he was in it for the long-term.

This seems even more the case now as he expressed his delight to those studying sportsbook patterns about securing Cheik Tiote on a long-term deal.

The midfielder has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2016/17 season. This extended deal follows his £3.5m arrival from FC Twente back in August.

Speaking about what this deal means to the club, Pardew said: “Cheik is exactly the type of player I want in my squad. He is fantastic on the pitch and in the changing room.

“He offers us strength and presence in midfield and has proved himself to be one of the best in his position in the Premier League.

“He’s adapted brilliantly to the English game and I’m delighted he’s signed a new deal with us.”

The final point Pardew makes is worth repeating – Tiote has been superb during his first campaign for Newcastle. Not many players come from abroad and settle in straight away, but he has done.

Of course, the stand out moment is the fantastic equaliser in the 4-4 draw with Arsenal, but that aside, he has been consistent alongside Kevin Nolan in midfield.

The 24-year-old has made 21 appearances so far, and he himself is pleased to stay at St James’ Park and build on the good start he has made to his career in England.

Speaking about staying at Newcastle for the long-term, he said: “The experience of playing in the Premier League has been better than I ever hoped it could be. This is a great club and the fans have been brilliant – I have never known support like it.”

Hopefully for Newcastle and Tiote, this is just the start of a blossoming career for the Ivory Coast man in the famous black and white shirt.
