Malcolm Macdonald have said that seven years ago but surprisingly still relevant to Newcastle United current situation. Can you imagine that, for the last seven years we are still struggling the same old story, and I believe the root of all this was the fact that we never have any manager with long enough time to solve each problems.
At that moment, Newcastle United have more or less the same problems, in particular the absence of Shearer and Sir Bobby Robson is frustrated in ways of solving his team dilemma.
“I guess I’ll have to get back in training” Supermac told me that day. “In a nutshell the real problem is the team get plenty of the ball but don’t go anywhere with it, thus they lose possession and get hurt.”
“Nobody makes the final pass for a running player to shoot, and this is compounded by a general unwillingness in the players to run at the last defender and go for goal.” Supermac added more, “If you don’t buy a ticket how can you win the raffle?”
Sam Allardyce this week was on Sir Bobby’s similar position back in December 2000, with below the par United team performance, injuries to his best striker and the mounted pressure upon him.
Yesterday, Les Ferdinand fears for Sam Allardyce’s future and saw the United players can get their managers sacked by the way they performed against Wigan and Derby.
Damien Duff also asking the favor from the Toon Army, and said that the players are the one they should put the blame on not Big Sam. More of that, Joey Barton also giving another headache for Allardyce by getting arrested right after the Wigan match.
Sir Alex Fergusson who is Big Sam old pal, said he will be “astounded” if Newcastle decided to sack Sam Allardyce.
“It seems to me as soon as Newcastle lose a game, the manager’s career is threatened,” he said. “I would be astounded if they got rid of Sam. I am convinced that of all the managers they have had, he is capable of doing better than most.”
Now the name that was shouting out to be the next Messiah for Newcastle is the Geordie boy Alan Shearer. Like I said couple days ago, I don’t think Shearer could do the better job than Allardyce with the current squad we have now. Yes, we have some talented players, but not all of them are capable to do his best in consistently.
Shearer has been collecting his coaching badges but still several months away from completing the Uefa Pro Licence that is supposedly a prerequisite for top-flight managers. He is also still have to collect some managerial experience before he can handle the task of managing a huge club like Newcastle.
It’s interesting to pay attention to what Sir Alex said about how many managers we have comparing to his time as Manchester United manager. It’s a lot and the first Newcastle manager he’s encountered was Willie McFaul, about 20 years ago…
