Obafemi Martins maybe the latest headlines on this blog recently and was being in focus by my fellow contributors Clarky and GJ, but I’d like to make my review about wor Australian lad Big Vid.
Couple of days ago, I didn’t take any noticed nor being interested to look for the news about him and the socceroos coach Pim Verbeek. But today I was being attracted by a news headline from goal.com and read more about it. It was an interesting and well written, free from any biased and proportional.
Although some Toon Army said he was not so impressive and a bit lazy to jump and try to win the header when playing against the Rams, I understand that he might not in full fitness and just want to avoid any unnecessary injury on his comeback day.
Have seen the highlights of his equalizing goals for us, I see he is still our best striker so far when he is fit. Both his goals were outstanding and very well taken. He is suddenly reminds me of Big Al, I see some quality from Big Vid’s last efforts and that can only come from an experienced player.
I am not saying he is as good as Big Al, for me nobody can replace him, but I give my full credit and appreciation to Mark Viduka for what he has done for Newcastle when he got the chance to play. Big Vid is an opportunist striker, a true center forward and if the United’s midfielder can continuing support him with excellent service, he is the guarantee for our goals.
What about loyalty? This is something else. Viduka’s decision not to take part on Australia’s opening World Cup qualifying match against Qatar in Melbourne on February 6 next year can be the signs of his loyalty for Newcastle United. But it’s not fair for the socceroos team if he is said to ignored them.
I think Big Vid would like to help United’s to climb up the Premier League table first and secured the next summer European League for us. Socceroos Dutch manager, Verbeek is confident that Viduka will be able to play later in the next campaigns.
“He is still a dangerous striker and an experienced striker, and if he can still bring something to the team, I will try to convince him that it is necessary (for him to play)”, said the Dutchman as quoted from the goal.com
I do believe when the time is right, Big Vid will play again for the Socceroos but right now his mind is only set for Newcastle which is a boost for Sam Allardyce.
“Viduka showed the way forward with his finishing on a day when we’ve not converted nearly enough chances,” Allardyce said. “He had three opportunities and scored with two of them.”
Welcome back to the team Big Vid! We are all need your experience, loyalty and more fighting spirit at Wigan on Boxing Day.
