Dubious Goal Panel – Who’s Got the Goals?

From the Guardian: ‘Very little is known about the Dubious Goal Panel except that it is made up of three people – a mix of former players and officials – and they meet on an ad hoc basis, generally about three times a season. Their names are a guarded secret for fear they may be leant on by unscrupulous betting syndicates. “Their identities are not revealed so as to protect the game’s integrity,” the spokesman added.’

The story then makes me think, is that so important for the club, supporters or the players about any Doobie-Doo-Bious biased for them? As long as the results are good, then I think nobody will be bothering who’s scored and how it happened.

But, if the goal are come from an own goal, maybe it is become so important, especially for the victims and/or the players who made the goal attempts. For the defenders, they will have good excuse that the goal wasn’t because of my fault, it was the opponent’s attempts that causing it. And for the players who did the goal attempt, his goal tally will be more higher and could resulted his name climbing up on the top scorers chart.

“As a rule, if the initial attempt is goalbound it is credited to the player making the goal attempt,” a Premier League spokesman said. “However if the deflection means that a wayward effort results in a goal then it is attributed to the player who had the last definitive touch of the ball.”
