Congratulations to James Milner!

James Milner today was named the winner of The Prince’s Trust North East Young Player of the Year. This award can be the first step for Milner on his own goal to become the part of England senior team squad.

James Philip Milner born January 4, 1986 in Wortley, and raised in Horsforth, Leeds. As a child, Milner was recognised as a talent in football, cricket and long distance running. He represented his school in each of those sports, and also played football for teams from Rawdon and Horsforth.

He supported Leeds United from a young age and was a season ticket holder at the club before becoming a ball boy.His career as professional footballer start at Leeds United, joining the Leeds United academy. He was later made his first appearance for the first team in 2002 on the aged only 16.


He achieved prominence by becoming the youngest player ever to score in the Premier League, aged 16 years and 309 days.

Following his move to Newcastle United, he was loaned to Aston Villa during the 2005–06 season. After comeback to Newcastle United, He established himself in the Newcastle first team and has now made over a hundred appearances for the Magpies.

At international level, he was the most capped for the England Under-21 side. He is now aiming his target to become part of Steve mcLaren’s England first team squad.

“I know we have had a couple of disappointing results lately, but I am confident we will soon turn things round, starting with Sunday’s game with Everton at St James’s Park.” Milner said after receiving his award.

As for his chance to appears for England Senior squad, He added: “As far as England is concerned all I can do is to keep doing my best for Newcastle United and let other people decide whether I can step up to the full international picture.”

For the goal of the season, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer picking Effion Williams’ excellent strike for Hartlepool in their derby clash with Darlington, while Obafemi Martins’ piledriver against Spurs at White Hart Lane last season came second. Milner’s goal against Manchester United at St James’s Park on New Year’s Day judged as the third.
