Anyone Fancy Another Clean Sheet This Weekend?

Smiling is everywhere as Christmas approaching the Tyneside this week. Newcastle United team has enjoying the best of the season so far after getting the first clean sheet since November last year against Fulham last weekend.

Shay Given was pleased with the performance of United’s defenders as they working fine together to get the three points, after having watch at the amount of goals we’re conceding so far this season.

Allardyce was as satisfied as the Lads with the clean sheet. He has seen a little of progress from his attempts to tighten Newcastle’s defence. He is challenging United players now to repeat it at home, with Derby County at St James’s Park on Sunday.

As quoted from the Gazette, Shay hinted at that as soon as he got through the dressing room door after the game, and he had a big smile on his face.

“It’s very pleasing for the goalkeepers, because they thrive on clean sheets as much as defenders.” Said Allardyce, “It’s a responsibility on us all, and I hope we all contributed to keeping Fulham out. We nullified their dangers and threats they had for most of the game.”

Big Sam said, the Fulham team have scored a lot of goals at home and their pressure has make life harder for a lot of teams who visit Craven Cottage, but last weekend we never allowed them to do that.

“We frustrated them, and finally killed them off at the end.” Said Allardyce.

Good point, although for some Toon Army, they are still telling the result as a frustrated result. If you feel that supporting the Toon is making you feel frustrated, then you can pick another team to follow, jump in on the bandwagon and follow the glory hunters in the South.

Meanwhile from the official site, Shay is on the shortlist for the FAI international senior player of the year award. He has 85 caps for his country so far and nominated for the award by a panel from the Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland.

Competing with him for the award are Reading striker Kevin Doyle and Manchester City defender Richard Dunne. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Dublin on February 3.
