Three Points Were All That Mattered

Sam Allardyce hailed the monumental effort of his players in the 2-1 victory over Birmingham at St. James’ Park thanks to last minute effort from Habib Beye. His bounching header brought the deserved win for United.

“We kept on going, kept on going, and the header put us three points on the board that we richly deserved.” Allardyce said on the official site, “Today’s monumental effort is great credit to the lads because of the huge disappointment of going 1-0 down to such a sloppy goal, which was a big ask for the nerves.”

And for the second times in a row, The genuine Toon Army gave their 200% of support for the lads after being a goal down again in another early minutes sloppy defend. Rozehnal may have been on the bench for too long and needed more match practice to make him as sharp as he is before.

But on the slippery wet surface with rain pouring down at St. James’ Park, may cost him a little bit of setbacks instead of being “soft”. If the weather yesterday is a bright as Wednesday, United may have been two or three goals ahead in the first-half.

“The lads came storming back with 14 shots at goal in the first half. But instead of having the game dead and buried by half-time we’ve had to rely on a penalty to get us back in the game.” Said Allardyce.

Coming back from a goal behind, Newcastle being awarded a penalty in first half to gain an equaliser. That was the moment when Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has questioned referee.

“Nobody could see what Rob has seen,” McLeish told Sky Sports News. “I’ve seen the pictures since and Saddler wins the ball and Martins is never getting there.”

He probably right about it, but United also have some penalty claim waves away by Rob Styles, with Emre’s free-kick just before Beye’s winning goal was a clear handball situation as shown in TV Replays.

It was cruel for the Blues, but anyhting can happens in football. Sometimes the result is not going on your way one day but on the other day, it was you that who would have been given the advantage in that such situation.
