The points to be positive about Newcastle United this season

These are the positives as I see them (about Newcastle United). You could add in that Tiote and Coloccini weren't sold, but I think that's best not considered a plus even though we all know it is. Go on then, hammer me.

Yohan Cabaye: He looks like an exceptional player. Alongside Tiote and Ben Arfa he could do some real damage.

Davide Santon: An imaginative signing. Credit where it is due, this player has the tools to become a star…handled right. Can we manage that? (gulp)

Demba Ba: It looks like he's just about ready. Showed good signs in the Fulham game.

Leon Best: Can look deeply hopeless, but he scores goals. He is meant to be a driven character. Can he use that drive to keep scoring and stay fit? If he can we may have a new antihero.

Sammy Ameobi: Finally some raw talent to take the breath away. His stunning goal against Scunthorpe may only have been against Scunthorpe, but it showed serious promise.

Sylvain Marveaux: An exciting player. He hasn't had an opportunity yet, but he looks – from what I've seen – to have something about him.

Jonas Gutierrez: I've been mightily impressed with him so far this season. He's tracked back like a titan and seems to have added something to his game. He was a threat against Fulham. I think this could be his season.

Haris Vuckic: This will be his year. He's bloody good.
