I said on Feb 1 that I would judge the business when the transfer window closed on August 31st. Well, here goes. We have failed miserably to replace Andy Carroll. I’m not as gutted as some regarding AC’s departure, but I think Demba Ba is not an adequate replacement. Negative.

In about two weeks now before the end of summer transfer window, Newcastle still looking for players to fill in some key positions. One of them is the Mali international striker Modibo Maiga who has reiterated that he wants to join Newcastle United.

Not a great game, to put it mildly, but I’m happy with the point and reasonably satisfied with the performance. The fact neither keeper had to make a real save put the quality of the game into perspective, but we grafted hard to close them down and the spirit looked ok, which had been my major pe-match concern.

Newcastle has done a fantastic job to ensure that there would be no repeat of a relegation from two seasons ago, and they are essentially safe as they sit on 41 points with three games left, six points above the relegation zone.
