Newcastle United Against Watford, FA Womens Cup 5th Round Draw Result
January 7th, 2008 by shearyadiNewcastle United’s Women FC under the new management duo Neil Baistow and Melanie Reay have won their 4th round tie against Preston North End 3-1, last Saturday.
Gemma Watson gave Preston the lead on eight minutes from the penalty spot.
Toon ladies soon responded well on twenty two minutes with a goal from Naomi Robson who ghosted in at the homeside back post.
Newcastle taken the lead just one minute before the end of first-half courtesy Sarah Bennett.
Sarah scores his second for Toon in second half with a fine run that beat three tackles from the home defenders to put The Magpies 3-1 up and into the hat for the draw on Monday.
“The players have been magnificent in overcoming a good Preston side for the second year running in the FA Cup.” Rob Atkin NUWFC Head Coach said, “They should be very proud of the way they have taken the club into the fifth round for only the second time in our history.”
