Joey Barton finished his second competitive match training in great result, scoring the first reserve goal against Wigan reserve and completed 65 minutes of play with no feel of pain from his past injury.

Joey Barton showing another good form in action for Newcastle United reserves team on Monday night and scoring in 19 minutes to bagged the reserves win 3-1 over Wigan. He managed 65 minutes of play yesterday, 20 minutes longer than his first game against the City reserves last week.

Sam Allardyce would be more pleased to see his second signing of the season playing with no side effect of his injury. Barton is one step closer for his first full Premier League debut for Newcastle when we entertain Tottenham at St James’ Park in two weeks time.

Joey Barton has his first competitive game after being sidelined since late July after breaking a metatarsal in a pre-season friendly at Carlisle. He’s joining the quest for full match fitness with the likes of Emre, Jose Enrique and Abdoulaye Faye.

Barton has 45 minutes of play while Emre, Enrique and Faye all have played in full 90 minutes.

The reserves match was the first from three second-string competitive matches that Barton should completed before Sam Allardyce will considered him fit for the return in first team squad.
