Just Another Toon Test Next Monday Night

May 1st, 2008 by shearyadi

First of all, I’d like to congratulates them for going to the final of Champions league for the very first time. It was a good game to watch and they clearly deserve to win the semi-final.

But, for the next Monday night fixture at St. James’s Park, we will give them another hard game. Our last home game this season against the Blues would be another test for Toon revivals under Kevin Keegan. A win would help lay solid foundations for a successful campaign next season.

Chelsea’s visit to St James’s Park on Monday will bring their own battle to wrest the Premier League title from Manchester United’s grasp, while our last match against Everton on the final day of the campaign, is also have a special atmosphere as the home team is in the race for the Uefa Cup spot.

For us, we may not have anything to fight for after securing the premierships status weeks ago, but I’m more than happy to see us doing great and ruin the other team hope. We will not giving them any favour because Keegan is still promising a grandstand finish and end this season without defeat.

“We want to go to Everton on the final day and finish the season on a high for the players to go away on holiday, for the staff because they need a boost and for the owner and mainly the fans,” Keegan said. “But what has really come home to me since I came back into the league is that the Premier League is the most fantastic league in the world for lots of different reasons.”

Former Toon hero Robert Lee told the Chronicle that Chelsea will be an interesting test for Newcastle now. Their visit is a chance to see how far we’ve come in the last few months. We have been pretty bad against Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, but against Chelsea we have give them good game and only lose with a controversial decision.

This is our last chance to face another of the top four this season, and with our significant improvement in our last seven matches, this is a must game to show what we can do against any of the top teams when we are in the good shape.

Newcastle Chasing Honey Monster After Losing Out Modric

Keegan might not watching live football after being exiled from the game for three years, and last to manage Manchester City in 2005. His lacked of detailed knowledge of the opposing teams have only cost him a slow revival time for Toon before putting together a sequence of seven matches with possible to end the season without defeat.

Now that we are securing our premierships status and it’s time to concentrate on rebuilding the team for next season. Admitted to have losing out to land Croatian midfielder Luka Modric to the on-high spirited Spurs, Keegan now focusing his sight on the former employee at City, Richard Dunne.

Dunne is another player who Keegan knows very well and Newcastle are hoping that the managerial upheaval at Manchester City will assist the pursuit of the 28-year-old Republic of Ireland centre half. City will be looking for around £5 million (€6.3 million) cash in for the player who has one year left on his current contract.

Former United player Steve Howey said Keegan will make no mistake trying to sign Dunne. Howey rated him as a top player and a great defender. According to his view, he’s the kind of player Newcastle need if we are going to challenge the top four again.

“This fellow is the best. I have played alongside some of the greatest modern-day central defenders in the likes of Tony Adams, Neil Ruddock and Gareth Southgate – and Richard Dunne is up there with the best of them. That’s how highly I rate him.” Howey said in the ChronicleLive.

It’s A Game I’d Like to Win

April 28th, 2008 by shearyadi

We may not involve as a contender in the title race this season or somewhere near in one or two years to come. But, I’m glad we have taking part in 2007-2008 championship title race between Manchester United and Chelsea, as we will meet one of them next Monday night fixture.

Our first meeting with Chelsea this season was ended with bad result for us. We have been controversially lost 2-1 by an offside goal, and put more pressure to the former manager. But for the next home fixture against the London team, Kevin Keegan is ‘deadly serious about trying to beat Chelsea’.

“The one thing that’s important for me is that we get the chance to test ourselves against one of the big four.” Keegan said, “I don’t think it’s our cup final, it’s Chelsea’s cup final and our chance to see how we’ve progressed. But it’s a game I’d like to win.”

The same feeling also expressed by our Cameroon international Geremi. He is determined to help Newcastle to victory against his former club.

“It’s the last game at home, in front of our fans, against one of the big teams,” he said. “We’ve been playing well in the last few weeks and it’s a big opportunity to send a message, it’s a big test for us to see how far we can go.”

From our last 14 home meetings in premiership encounters with them we have won seven times, three draws, and lost four. In 2004/05, Geremi’s own goal gave us 1-1 draw, while the last win against them at home was in 2005/06 with a goal from Titus Bramble.
