In a decent interview with the BBC football focus yesterday, Keegan has describe his visions for Newcastle United team after making a shock return and his future plans.
King Kev said that on the last January transfer window, He actually didn't want to bring in any new players. Although he has said about bring in three more players, it turns out that the type of players that he wants to strengthen the current team were not available or being out of our reach.
I thought his policy not to rush in was a better decision rather than spending for half decent players, Keegan wants to keep more money to spend for in the summer. Keegan wants to had chance to get a proper look at the players he wants.
When asked about Sir Alex Ferguson comment about his second return and how it will be much harder this time because the game has changed, Keegan answer the question very wisely “That's what they'd like you to think…”
During the interview, Keeegan talking sense as usual, seems both realistic and optimistic about the future of the club. I would do a transcript of the best bits, but I can't be arsed. Some very important comments on Wise, Jimenez and Vetere, he knew about it all.
About Jonathan Woodgate, King Kev said we tried to hijack the Woodgate deal but were too late, he would have picked Beckham, he realises that we are playing with fear and not trying anything risky on the field which is stifling our creativity.
Keegan also describe into a lot more detail about what he thought on Joey Barton's case, KK explaining how Joey has always had to fight for everything and he really thinks prison has gave him a reality check.
Later, to answer the BBC pundit question about has Mike Ashley promised King Kev the resources to do this job, Keegan said “It's definitely there for us, I mean don't be fooled by this transfer window. That was my choice not to bring in – we could have brought in 4 or 5 players and spent some money.”
He didn't feel the players available or that he was offered were good enough, though, and I should really add that he goes onto say that when the summer comes he'll have a better handle on the squad and will bring in players who will take Newcastle to the next level.
Keegan is spot on in that interview, he also comes across as somebody who had confidence in what he's trying to do and that he’s confident it will work out. Keegan has spent money well for us in the past and I'm convinced that he will again.
The easiest thing for him to do during the window would have been to spend but it would have been the wrong thing to do if he was spending for the sake of it. That sort of thing is why we’re going through a bad patch now, we’ve often bought for the sake of it.
Keegan told that we have just woken up with an almighty bad hang over after a night out with Freddy, Souness, Roeder & Dougy Hall. It will take time to come round. Little steps, sip of water, bacon sarnie. If we get this place going, we will have the best owner in the country.
