I Dream Of Newcastle United Geordies XI

I wonder what it would be if we have eleven kids born in the same year and growing up together in the same schoolyards, playing pig in the middle since younger age and come through the Newcastle academy youth ranks together, playing for the reserves together, and later become the greatest ever Newcastle United Geordies XI.

I’m talking about Steve Harper, Bobby Cowell, Steve Watson, Frank Clark, Steven Taylor, Chris Waddle, Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascoigne, Lee Clark, Frank Hudspeth, Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson, Alan Shearer and Jackie Milburn. To have them all in one Newcastle United squad, we can be sure that they will deliver the most attacking football the world ever seen.

So, who will have the honour to guide those ‘virtual’ young players to glory? I can only think of one name, and he is the one and only Bobby Robson.

Robson without a doubt will be pleased to have them in his team and will working very well to bring as many success as he can.

So now we only can hope that there will be many to comes from Newcastle youth team, and we can hope the new Milburn, Beardsley, Waddle, Gazza, and Shearer will come from the North-East.

Our current chairman, Christopher Mort hopes the same thing, and currently he has been hailed Steven Taylor as one of a handful of homegrown players in Sam Allardyce’s first-team squad, along with Steve Harper and Shola Ameobi. Too bad we have loss one potential player in the name of Michael Chopra, who is currently playing for macKems.

Steven Taylor was presented with the North East Writers’ Football Association’s first Young Player of the Year award by Allardyce on Sunday.

“I’m delighted for Steven. I’m very happy he’s got this award,” Mort said. “He’s a guy who will give absolutely 110 per cent in every game he plays, whether it’s for Newcastle United or England’s Under-21s.”

“I’m delighted to see him captain the Under-21 team. I’m not as delighted to see him get injured playing for England, but that’s going to happen from time to time.”

Until the day he was being awarded as the Young Player of the Year award, Taylor still wants the terms of his new contract to be right before he commits his long-term future to the club he has supported since childhood.

Mort has nothing to say when being asked about the current situation, so maybe we will have to postponed our dream to have the Geordies XI for…the next century? Howay the Lads!!!
