I can’t wipe the smile off my face!

January 16th, 2008 by Clarky

I was crestfallen when the guy quit after falling out with Shep and the Halls. Never in my wildest dreams did I think KK would ever return to the SJP dug-out.

Now that he has I’m stunned, and frankly I don’t know what to make of it - even though I can’t wipe the smile off my face! In truth, I’m not entirely sure it’s the best decision that could have been made. It’s rarely the right thing to do to ‘go back’ to any situation, never mind one that provided the dreams this guy left us with.

For now I feel we have to wait for full details of what is being put in place. If this is a straightforward appointment, with say a 3 yr contract, I would be concerned. KK’s career is littered with situations that he walked away from, and the thought of him beginning the rebuilding process, spending a lot of Ashley’s money, and then walking away troubles me.

I only hope Mort & Ashley have recognised this as a real danger, and that KK’s appointment is simply the first move in a more comprehensive management strategy that takes serious account of the need for an active succession plan, including a live contingency to cater for any ‘dessertion’.

My hope is that KK is being appointed as the senior football brain in the organisation, and that following this someone like Alan Shearer wiil be installed as his Assistant with a view to taking over the 1st Team job in say 18 months time, with KK becoming Technical Director. This kind of time-frame would surely fit KK’s wider desires?

One thing is for certain, life won’t be as dull as it has been for the last 3 years.

It was officially announce today that Kevin Keegan is finally become the chosen one, and will mark his second return to Newcastle United.

There’s still no official statement from King Kev about his second return for Toon, but it’s clearly that his love for Newcastle United that brought him back. He also hasn’t chose who will be his number two, but I predicted there’s only one man who fit in well, Alan Shearer.
