Handling the Football Administration Behind the Scenes

May 4th, 2008 by shearyadi

Speaking about how many transfer kitty that the top four would spend in the summer is like a daydreaming story for most of us, an ordinary supporters, who have to work all day and all night to collect pennies just for a ticket in weekend to see our team playing.

These are coming the sunday newspapers and many of them circulating the old and new speculations about the premierships team summer transfers. From News Of The World article, believe it or not, Arsene Wenger being given the green light to splash £15m on Oba Martins.

Concurrently, The Mail recknos Wenger’s transfer kitty has been slashed to £25m, meaning he will only be able to sign three or four players in the summer.

Other news from NOTW also has Abramovich authorising a record-breaking £80m move for Barcelona’s, Lionel Messi, while Sir Alex Fergusson ready to make a £25m bid for Citeh’s Micah Richards. Newcastle also interested in Micah in January but the player choose to stay and extend the contract.

With the latest City situation where Eriksson is almost certain will not in charge again next season, the possibilities are now open wide again for other premier league giants to get some of their quality players out from City of Manchester.

Meanwhile, Kevin Keegan said once again that Michael Owen’s contract situation at St James’ Park remains unresolved and he was keen to open discussions very soon in the near future before it’s too late.

“He has every right to be free at the end of the season and go anywhere he wants,” Keegan said in The People. “That’s why I said eight weeks ago we should tie him up. If we don’t, and we lose him, then what can I say?”

Owen situation has been the subject of speculations from the start of the year of 2008. When we were still strugglin in relegation battle, Newcastle chairman Chris Mort preferred we secured our premier league status first before starting any new contract extention for Michael Owen.

Clarky, one of Magpies Zone contributor said that Mort’s policy probably reasonable when dealing with someone like Stephen Taylor. However, for someone like Owen, Kevin Keegan is spot on in believing we should be sorting his contract out just as soon as possible.

This kind of thing confirms to me Chris Mort’s worrying lack of knowledge and experience of the fooball game. I also worry about Keegan losing faith in those handling the administration behind the scenes, and how he might react to losing a player like Owen through sheer bloody-minded procrastination.

Newcastle Pursuing 1,000th Post War League Win

May 2nd, 2008 by shearyadi

Next monday night fixture at St. James’s Park will have some memorable occasion especially for Newcastle United and our in-form again Steve Harper.

A win against Chelsea would be our 1,000 post war league wins and also 100 league start for 33 years-old Harper. That would be our fourth win in succession at home. King Kev is not in the mood to be the first manager to taste a defeat against the London side since Chelsea’s have their last Premier League victory at St James’ Park was on 29 December 2001.

“My focus now is trying to win these last two football games we have and then trying to get three or four players in that can give us all a reason to come back with even more optimism than we have at the moment.” Keegan said.

Former United left-back Olivier Bernard also tipped United to do great once again and extend the unbeaten run into eight games. Bernard bagged the winner in 2003 against Chelsea to booked a place in the top four for the second season running under Sir Bobby Robson.

Steve Harper, who will mark his 100th league start with United said the game of the season would be against Chelsea at home on Monday. He said, we’re not interested in who wins the title, all we care about on Monday, is to go out and try to win that game.

He also praised Kevin Keegan’s tactical acumen since he returned to Newcastle United. Keegan’s phenomenal decision to change the Toon formation to a 4-3-3 formation at Birmingham has seen the Magpies flourish in recent weeks.

“He’s infectious, he just walks into a room and gets an extra 20 per cent out of players.” Harper said in SkySports website, “You have to give him a lot of credit tactically for what he did a couple of months ago. He changed the formation at Birmingham and got a big point when we needed it, and since then we’ve been a lot more solid at the back with a goal threat up front, and that’s a good combination.”

Newcastle Chasing Honey Monster After Losing Out Modric

Keegan might not watching live football after being exiled from the game for three years, and last to manage Manchester City in 2005. His lacked of detailed knowledge of the opposing teams have only cost him a slow revival time for Toon before putting together a sequence of seven matches with possible to end the season without defeat.

Now that we are securing our premierships status and it’s time to concentrate on rebuilding the team for next season. Admitted to have losing out to land Croatian midfielder Luka Modric to the on-high spirited Spurs, Keegan now focusing his sight on the former employee at City, Richard Dunne.

Dunne is another player who Keegan knows very well and Newcastle are hoping that the managerial upheaval at Manchester City will assist the pursuit of the 28-year-old Republic of Ireland centre half. City will be looking for around £5 million (€6.3 million) cash in for the player who has one year left on his current contract.

Former United player Steve Howey said Keegan will make no mistake trying to sign Dunne. Howey rated him as a top player and a great defender. According to his view, he’s the kind of player Newcastle need if we are going to challenge the top four again.

“This fellow is the best. I have played alongside some of the greatest modern-day central defenders in the likes of Tony Adams, Neil Ruddock and Gareth Southgate – and Richard Dunne is up there with the best of them. That’s how highly I rate him.” Howey said in the ChronicleLive.
